Monday’s Minutes

In case you are new here or you happened to miss Monday’s issue, So You Screwed Up at Work, let me catch you up to speed. I wrote that it’s inevitable that we will make mistakes in our careers, and some takeaways about that fact.

Now that spring is here (which came earlier than usual this year), perhaps it’s time for that age-old practice of “Spring Cleaning.” Where did the practice of Spring Cleaning come from? Well, there are a few answers to that question, all of which say that the practice has been around for some time; I also suppose that it comes from being cooped up all winter long with all the garbage and dust and being unable to remove it until we can open the doors and windows and sweep it out. I also believe it helps to have more energy to do the work, given we're exposed to warm air and sunshine as opposed to the colder months where we are hunkered down just to keep warm.

So, what do you want to clean up this spring? It could be true cleaning, e.g. cleaning out the garage, or it could be cleaning things at work. For instance, after a downtime toward the end of last year, you want to get some things in line before ramp-up, or if the beginning of the year was busy (speaking to my accounting friends here), after that busy season, it may be the optimal time to look at your surroundings, improve some processes, organize documents, or clean up that folder now that you have some extra time.

I know that, for some of us, cleaning may not be our strongest suit, but I think that most would agree that having a clean and organized space allows for relaxation and better work.
